To collect a sputum cytology examination specimen, follow the steps below.

Collect sputum after a coughing fit in the container provided by the laboratory (yellow cap), avoiding splashing

The specimen should not salivate.

If the patient has difficulty expectorating, an aerosol of lukewarm water can be used, inhaling slowly and deeply about ten times.

Repeat the entire procedure for consecutive days (if required on multiple samples).
