How to collect urine for urine culture

To collect urine for urine culture:

Equip yourself with a wide-mouth sterile container
Urine should be collected in the morning, upon awakening
Wash hands and external genitals thoroughly with soap and water and rinse carefully.
Urinate by discarding the first stream and collecting part of the next stream directly into the container.
Do not touch the edges or inside of the container with your hands or genitals
Close the container carefully
Urine should be delivered to the laboratory within one hour.

For urine culture, any antibiotic therapy should be interrupted at least 7 days before.

Urine culture
