How to prepare for blood tests
Tips for preparing for blood draw
To adequately prepare for blood tests, it is recommended to observe a fast of at least 8-12 hours and not to smoke in the hours from waking up to the time of blood draw. Only modest amounts of water (1-2 glasses) are allowed to be drunk. In the days before the blood draw, should be followed the usual diet. Excessive food intake or a restrictive diet can affect not only the laboratory results but also the clinical considerations derived from them. It is necessary to avoid physical activity in the 8-12 h before the blood draw. Some activities such as running, gym activity, may affect the determination of different values (CK, LDH, AST and others). The patient should submit to the blood draw without having taken any medications (except those prescribed by a physician).
